Apollo Sacred Area is close to Emecik village on the Marmaris Datca road. This area was found as a result of the excavations were carried out by a cooperation between Middle East Technical University and German Scientific Research Institution with the contribution of Gerda-Henkel Foundation in 1998-2006 on behalf of the Ministry of Culture. Excavations are to be concentrated on the Upper Terrace, Hellenistic Dorian Temple and Lower Terrace. Writer Herodotus mentions in his work that the tribe Dorian gathered at Triopion and performed their rituals . You can see Doric architecture on the Upper terrace.

In 1999 they found Big Basilica from early Byzantine era. In original Basilica 20.3m x 14m in size, it has got three naves plan. It is a round and has 5 sides abscissas on its east, has got one narthex on it west. During Middle Byzantine era, Basilica's middle nave was changed into a small church 9.95m x 4.40m. As a result of the second excavations, the south face of Hellenistic Monumental Structure was completely excavated in 1998. It is a kind of Doric structure which is composed of peripteros plan, 611 columns stylobat and three krepis.

In 1998 Hellenistic monumental structure's excavation was completely revealed. It has stylobat with peripteros plan, 611 columns and a krepidom with 3 krepis. The excavations at the bottom of the terrace, the south temenos wall of the structure provided important results in obtaining stratigraphic finds to reveal the establishment phase.

The results of the archaeological excavations show the importance of Apollo for Datca's archaeology. The bottom of the terrace had been used for sacrifice ceremonies since the late Geometric period especially archaic times. It is interesting that it had been abandoned during the classical era until the 4th century BC. As a result of the excavations, Emecik/Sarıliman sacred area had transoceanic importance until at the end of the 6th century BC. Findings like limestones, ceramics figures and potteries that are finalized as Knidos goods are remarkable. These goods are known as Greek handcrafts so far.

The features of the epigraphical data which have been obtained in the sacred area and are valuable archaeological pieces that are used for sacrifice ceremonies proved the requirement of the attachment to Apollo.
