Ingredients : 4 tablespoons of tarhana, 5 cups of water, 1 cup of cowpeas (soaked one day in advance), 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 1 tablespoon of butter, 2 pieces of dried red pepper and 2 cloves of garlic (crushed).

Preparation : 

Boil cowpeas in a pot and put into tarhana in an other pot to soak in the water for half an hour. Start with cooking tarhana soup. Stir it constantly until boiling to prevent clumping. Add boiled cowpeas, red peppers, oil, butter and crushed garlic into the soup to cook for 5 minutes more. Adding meat is optional.
