Osman Hamdi Bey was an archaeologist and painter. He is considered as the pioneer of museum curator in Turkey. He had lived for a while in Turgut town of Yatagan in Mugla. His house has been completely restored. Really significant places or old houses are chosen to restore and renovate in order to offer for cultural heritage attention in Mugla if they have good evidence of what was there previously. They are being served to Cultural Tourism. 

As he was the one who did start the excavations of the ancient city of the Lagina, he had spent 2 years of his life between 1891 and 1893 and  painted his famous painting  “Kaplumbağa Terbiyecisi” (The tortoise trainer) in his house.  The tableaux has been sold 5 trillion Turkish lira recently. The House of Osman Hamdi Bey has been completely renovated and is opened as a Museum.
